ABOUT

Elenie Chung (钟凯琹) is a filmmaker from Trinidad and Tobago. She grew up with a pet turtle, outside Trinidad’s capital, with a bedroom view of the Caribbean Sea squeezed between two terraced houses. Her narrative and documentary films use interpersonal relationships to convey ideas about migration, ancestral amnesia, and the Chinese diasporic experience in a globalised world.

Elenie graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with an MFA in Film Directing/Production in 2019. Since then, she has made several films which have screened in international festivals and art exhibitions. She was an artist resident of Praksis (Oslo, NO), Squeaky Wheel (Buffalo, NY) and Headlands Center for the Arts (Sausalito, CA). She is also a MacDowell Fellow (2024). She also works with film organisations and collectives (Acropolis Cinema; Los Angeles Festival of Movies with Mezzanine; Shadow Kitchen) in Los Angeles with a goal of amplifying works by non-US filmmakers.

Elenie is based in Los Angeles, CA. Her current bedroom view is of a driveway.
